(Jizerky) are the northernmost Czech mountains, known for their rugged northern nature with extensive peat bogs, spruce forests (including primeval forests) and granite rocks, named after the Jizera River; They are a key recreational area for summer hiking and cross-country skiing (Jizerská magistrála), with the highest peak in Czechia, Smrk (1124 m above sea level), and the highest peak in Poland, Wysoka Kopa (1128 m above sea level). The Jizera Mountains were namedafter the Jizera River.
The predominant rock types in the entire mountain range are granite and slate. The forest here is mainly mixed (consisting of fir, spruce, and beech). Heavy logging of the forest cover has been evident since around the 17th century, whenglassmaking began to develop inthe Jizeraregion.
